QuarkXpress "collect for output"
QuarkXpress, like most professional DTP programs, has an option to collect for output all used graphics, fonts, documents etc. Step-by-step instructions start here...The information below applies to all versions however there may be some slight differences in visual presentation. The screenshots used are from version 5 on PC.
Quark's built-in "Collect for Output" routine not only reveals any potential problems but ensures that (once the problems are solved) the whole job is saved exactly as created and can be opened on a remote PC with confidence.
First you should ensure all your links are up to date by going to Utilities> Usage>
(click the 'More information' box) then fix any broken links or font problems.
Once these are all OK press 'Done' or 'Close' and proceed to "Collect for Output"
You should select (or create) a folder for Quark to collect all the files into. Collect for output will create individual folders for images, fonts, etc. within this folder together with a copy of the Quark document itself.
Be sure to tick all the boxes available so that nothing is missed out.
By default some versions of QuarkXpress leave some of these blank (for some strange reason)
You may see a warning window that some items are not up to date.
If so you must go back and correct these before trying again.
Alternatively you may get a warning window about copying fonts - if you have chosen to collect fonts - ignore this and click OK.
NB: You are allowed to copy your fonts to a service provider (eg printer) on temporary loan to enable them to output your job, otherwise this would be almost impossible.
